Dream Big but not too big

One of my new favorite movies has got to be My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2. I remember when the first one came out, it was cute but I never thought it was nearly as funny as everyone else did. When I was in grad school we learned that your perceptions of the world are changed over time due to age, learning, experiences, etc. Now I like the first one, too, but I still think this is the better one. Normally it doesn’t seem like seconds and thirds of movies are as good as the first, but I believe this one is and I hope that there are more.

Let’s ponder one of those above thoughts… life experiences change how you perceive things. Hmmm… why would I pick that to focus on? Simple… a couple weeks ago I spent the week at my aunt and uncle’s in southern Oklahoma with Tbug. She’s 14 now. How in the world did that happen, she’s just 6, right? No, unfortunately she has moved on to those teenage years.

Distinctive Characteristics

The other night I was watching Dancing with the Stars. Yes, I know, it ended a few weeks ago, but I was on vacation so I DVR’ed it. I finally got caught up and I”m soooooo happy with the final results. I might have been a bit shocked as the order of 2, 3, and 4, but 1 was who I wanted to win.

Anyway, I wanted to see Emma Slater and Rashad Jennings win it, mainly because I wanted to see Emma win a season. I always tend to root for someone who hasn’t won in the past, that is when it comes to the Pro Dancers. Obviously, unless it’s a come back show, the stars haven’t won the mirror ball :).

Again… moving back to the topic I started with… I keep getting side tracked…. For some reason the evening that I was watching I started paying attention to Emma’s face. Something about her facial expressions reminded me of Kate Winslet. Then I started thinking about other English actresses and Kiera Knightly popped into my head, that’s the reason for the three photos up above. The more I contemplated and debated, the more I realized that these 3 women had similar features.

Now I know, I know, there are a lot of women out there who are English, these are just the three that popped in to my head. But it made me start thinking… different nationalities have similarities in their looks, right? Does it make it easier to distinguish if someone is this nationality or that nationality without ever hearing them speak.

I’m not sure I’m being very eloquent with my words right now…. But I guess what I wondered is, do American’s have similarities in their looks? Something that distinguishes them from other nationalities, or is it just the pompousness that I hear we have about us. I prefer to think I’m not arrogant, but I sometimes wonder if I don’t have that pretentiousness about me too.

Just random thoughts for this Tuesday. Now back to regularly scheduled programming. ha!

All Dogs go to Heaven

Dogs are about the most loyal companion you will find. Sadly, my Mother-in-law last her’s last night. So technically Santa brought Cowgirl to Tbug when she was 3 or 4 (Tbug was 3 or 4 not Cowgirl), but this dog was my MIL’s dog. She lived with my MIL. My MIL spoiled her rotten. And even though my MIL always claimed that was Tbug’s dog… we all secretly knew that that was Memaw’s dog.

Memaw was torn up. She told hubby that was her best friend. She couldn’t bury her so hubby and I went over to bury Cowgirl for her. Hubby nor Memaw could call and tell Tbug so I volunteered. Some days it is rough being the adult. I’m not really sure if it even affected Tbug. I couldn’t tell via the phone. I offered to come pick her up so she could help us, but her mom said that she had bball practice and couldn’t come.

Then the next task is explaining to a toddler what happened. Have I mentioned it’s rough being an adult, especially the parent. Dogs though, they’re the best and remember All Dogs Go To Heaven because they’re so great.

Pedicures

We picked my mom up from the airport yesterday. She was in Hawaii for 2 weeks or so for work. When she got off the plane she had on flip flops and Abug saw grandma’s toenails. She said, Pretty! and then insisted that she get her toenails like grandma’s. We decided to go ahead and get pedicures and my mom needed to get her nails filled (she has fake nails).

When we got there mom got in for her fill and Abug and I went over to the pedicure station. They wouldn’t give Abug a pedicure sadly. Then she started throwing a fit that she didn’t want her toenails painted, she wanted her fingernails painted like grandma’s. After we got her toenails painted, she did everything in her power to scrape the nail polish off. Grrrrr! Needless to say I don’t think she’ll be getting her nails professionally painted for a while. Boy that fit she threw was something else…. sigh!

Driving Lessons

I’m pretty sure I have a few more gray hairs…

Remember a couple years ago when I was trying to teach Tbug how to drive a standard? I told her before she could get her driver’s license she had to be able to check the oil in the car (not change it, just check it), change a tire, and drive a standard transmission. So 2 years ago I attempted to teach her because at the time we had a standard… If you remember (if not I”m telling you now) she ran the car into the back of the tractor. I was 2 weeks away from having Abug. I was very pregnant. We were in our driveway and not going very fast but we both bounced off the dash. She hasn’t lived it down…

Well her mom moved her across the state line into Kansas. I don’t really know Kansas law but I know you can get your drivers license at 15 (instead of 16) and you can get your learner’s permit at 14 instead of 15. She doesn’t have it yet, but I guess her mom is talking about letting her get it. Gray hair #1. I also guess her mom has been letting her drive their vehicle (I don’t know, just what Tbug tells me). So lately she’s been bragging about “Being a Good Driver.” I keep telling her to knock on wood because she’s getting way to cocky and needs to learn some humility.

Anyway Sunday I walked out to the barn to let the horses out before we went to town. I walked back to the house and went to get in the passenger seat and noticed Tbug was in the driver’s seat and hubby was in the back seat. <sigh> 2 years ago all over again, except it’s not a standard so if we hit something we won’t bounce backwards if she has her foot on the clutch….

Hubby agreed to let her drive down the driveway. She sits so stiff I was nervous. Hubby kept getting on to me for being nervous. I was like, hello… I was in the front seat when she ran into the tractor. He then let her drive out the driveway and down the road. We live in the country so the roads aren’t very populated.

Let’s see… she rolled through a stop sign, didn’t stop. She didn’t put her seat belt on. She almost took out a guard rail. Sigh! And I was in the front seat to witness it all. I made her stop in the middle of the road (no one around) and put her seat belt on. I yelled at her for rolling through a stop sign. There was a guy who stopped in the middle of the road and she wasn’t moving over so I yelled again. and I closed my eyes going over the bridge, I only know about the guard rail because hubby told her.

Uh huh… and she’s a “Good Driver.” I told her she needs to learn more humility and not brag. Instead, learn how to be a good driver….

Note: She’s not a bad driver, but she’s definitely boasting on herself way to much…. I hope we can teach her better and the end goal is to make her a good driver!

Be Our Guest

Beauty and the Beast is probably one of my all time FAVORITE movies. That and Dirty Dancing. I’m pretty sure my grandma was a saint because anytime I was at her house I just HAD to watch Beauty and the Beast. I almost know all of the words by heart. I wish I was kidding….

Tbug likes Beauty and the Beast too. It isn’t her favorite Disney movie, that would be Lion King, but she does like it. A year ago I heard they were making Beauty and the Beast into a live action movie… to say I was excited is a bit of an under-exaggeration. So I marked it on my calendar a year ago when I heard about the release date. Yes, that’s true… maybe a little sad, but very true.

This year Tbug and I were discussing it and she said she wanted to see it too. I told her it was a date. Well then all the scuttlebutt about gay scenes and people needing to avoid it and yada yada yada. I hate to say it but that didn’t detour me at all from seeing it and truthfully, you have to be looking to see the scenes they were referring to as gay… whatever.

I would like to say the movie is friggin awesome. We saw it in 3D and I may not do that again. I will be owning this movie when it comes out on Blu-ray/DVD. Loved it! I wanted to be Belle. I kind of like her! She’s my favorite Disney Princess! Very Educated. Very worldly. Doesn’t want to settle. Yet finds her prince… who wouldn’t want to be her?

Tale of the New Dishwasher

Every so often life doesn’t go as planned. It happens. Last week I went to start the dishwasher and about 3 minutes in it started beeping at me. I opened the door and it was throwing an error code and it stunk. Like water was standing in it and it was stinky. Yuck! Couldn’t help but wonder how long the water stood in there really.

I finally got the code to clear, tried to start it again, and no go. <sigh> So I wound up doing all the dishes by hand and then right after that was when I took Abug to bed and she threw up and it started a downhill spiral, real quick. Anyway… we won’t focus on that!

So When hubby got home from his work trip he took the dishwasher out and tried to figure out what was wrong. We got one code error to clear and a new one fired up. End of the story was, the dishwasher was toast. Luckily it isn’t ours… lol. It’s mom and dad’s dishwasher so we told them what was going on. We went on the hunt for a new dishwasher for them.

We wound up at Lowe’s. We asked the guy what he recommended and then that’s the one we bought. The next thing was to install it. I think daddy had a pretty cute helper! Just saying 😙😜.

Bandaid’s Hurt

Did you know band aids hurt? Is it Bandaid or is it Band aid? I’m not really sure… If you ask spell check it says 2 words but it doesn’t always know best.

After going to the ER and being diagnosed with Influenza B, Abug was put on medicine to make her get better. The ER’s recommendations were to do a follow up with the primary care physician. Sadly we don’t have one right now. The reason being, ours quit practicing in July 2016. I’ve taken her back to the doctor’s office where our pediatric doctor was last December when she was really sick and exposed to pneumonia but otherwise, we just haven’t found a primary care doctor yet.

After a week of not getting better and still running fevers, I decided to call the doctors office and see if they could have either one of the doctors or the nurse practitioner get her in just to make sure either A) the ER didn’t miss something or B) she was getting better or whatever was causing this. It was all very frustrating.

The nurse practitioner was able to get her in and check her out. After running some tests, they determined she had an ear infection, which they said is pretty common in young children. Their nose to ear ratio is very short and with excessive snot build up from the flu it can cause bacteria to grow in the ear and bam, ear infection.

Finally, an easy fix. They put her on some pink medicine. So after a week of all of this, the 2 things she complained about was the pink medicine, but more so that darn bandaid at the ER they used after pulling out the IV they hooked her up to.
